Biography

Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui is a distinguished healthcare professional with over 35 years of experience in the medical sector, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Mater Misericordiae Hospital, a position she has held since July 2020. Her extensive career began in 1983 when she trained as a nurse at Aga Khan University and subsequently completed her midwifery training at Mater Hospital in Nairobi in 1985. She further qualified as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse from the University of Nairobi in 1990.


Throughout her career, Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui has worked in various healthcare settings, including Kibwezi, Makueni, and the Mukuru Promotion Centre, where she dedicated herself to improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations. Her commitment to compassionate care aligns with the ethos of the Sisters of Mercy, of which she is a long-term member and currently serves as a Trustee. She has also worked as a part time lecturer in Kenyatta University and Daystar University.


Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui pursued advanced education, earning her Master's degree in Palliative Care from Dundee University in Scotland and completing her Master's studies in Flinders University in South Australia from 2004 to 2006. Upon returning to Kenya, she took on the role of Director of Nursing Education at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing at Mater Hospital, where she played a crucial role in maintaining educational standards and fostering a supportive environment for students and staff.


In addition to her responsibilities at Mater Hospital, Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui has served on the Mutomo Hospital Board and was instrumental in establishing the Our Lady of Lourdes Mutomo Nursing School, which welcomed its first cohort in September 2017. She is also an active member of the Archdiocese of Nairobi Health Board and participates in various committees within the Nursing Council of Kenya. Most recently, Dr. Ngui completed her Doctorate studies in Nursing and Midwifery from Selinus University of Science and Literature, further enhancing her expertise and leadership in the field.
